RDL/SA/EXC 04: GOLD REEF CITY
Fondly known as Egoli – the city of gold – a visit to Johannesburg is never really complete without a tour to Gold Reef City, which houses an old mine. On arrival and accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, stroll trough the theme park reflecting life and history of Johannesburg at the turn of the century. Take the opportunity to go down a mine-shaft and watch a gold pour. Learn about the miners way of life, their peculiar uniting mine language, which was devised as a common means of communication among the many diverse tribes who worked here, see their interesting gum boot dances etc. There will be plenty of walking and a lot of education for those so inclined so remember to wear comfortable shoes.
